Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 (12 oz) bag white chocolate chips
- 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows
- 1 cup red and green gumdrops or chewy candy, chopped
How To Make Grandma’s Christmas Candy
-
Prepare the pan: Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
Lightly spray or grease the parchment so the candy will lift out easily later. Set aside. -
Melt the base mixture: Place the butter, white chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows
into a large microwave-safe mixing bowl. Microwave for 1 minute. -
Stir and continue melting: Use a greased spatula to stir the mixture.
Continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each heating cycle,
until fully melted, creamy, and smooth.
The mixture should look silky with no lumps of marshmallow left. -
Cool slightly: Allow the melted mixture to sit and cool for about
1 minute.
This step keeps the gumdrops from melting. -
Add the gumdrops: Gently fold the chopped red and green candies into the warm nougat base.
The colors will look festive and bright! -
Shape the candy block: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Use your spatula to press and smooth it into an even, level layer. Make sure the gumdrops are
distributed throughout. -
Chill: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for
at least 4 hours or overnight.
This allows the nougat to firm up. -
Slice and enjoy: Lift the hardened candy block out of the pan by holding the edges
of the parchment. Remove parchment, place the candy on a cutting board, and slice it into
bite-sized squares. -
Storage: Store finished candies in an airtight container.
They keep beautifully for a week in the fridge.
Recipe Tips & Notes
- Chopping gumdrops is easier if you lightly coat the knife with oil or powdered sugar.
- You can substitute gummy fruit slices or soft chewy candy in Christmas colors.
- A silicone spatula prevents sticking when spreading the warm nougat.
- Double the recipe and use a 9×13 pan for gifting large batches.
