Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 onion, grated
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

For the Casserole

  • 2 1/2 cups egg noodles
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups Swiss cheese, grated
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for serving)
  • Kosher salt & ground black pepper, to taste

How to Make Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray and set it aside.

Step 2: Make the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, grated onion, nutmeg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until everything is just combined.

Scoop out about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the mixture for each meatball and roll it into a ball.
Repeat until all the meat is used.

Step 3: Brown the Meatballs

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides.
Remove them from the skillet and transfer to a plate.

Step 4: Cook the Noodles

Boil the egg noodles in salted water, cooking them for 2 minutes less than the package instructions (so they finish cooking in the oven).
Drain and set aside.

Step 5: Make the Creamy Sauce

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, pour in the beef broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce.
Scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pan — these add flavor!
Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10 minutes until it slightly thickens.
Season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.

Step 6: Assemble the Casserole

Add the cooked noodles to the prepared baking dish.
Place the browned meatballs on top.
Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the pasta and meatballs, then sprinkle the grated Swiss cheese over everything.

Step 7: Bake

Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.

Step 8: Serve

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Top with freshly chopped parsley for color and flavor.
Enjoy this creamy, comforting Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake!
